Our Software Feature Enablers (SFEs) are advanced software features which enhance the performance of a factory standard MiMOMax Wireless radio. As not all of our customers require the same features, these SFEs are optional and are offered separately to meet your requirements. The SFEs are easily configured via MiMOMax’s Command Line Interface (CLI) or Configuration, Control and Monitoring Software (CCMS) via direct, remote (ethernet) or Over-The-Air connection.

Please note: our Tornado radio comes with factory-standard Software Feature Enablers including CCMS, SNMP and MDAP plus MSEC (for multipoint deployments) and MSYNC (for teleprotection).

 

M-PoD – Power On Demand 

Key use: Power-saving

 

MiMOMax’s unique power-saving feature, Power On Demand, promptly turns on the remote end of a radio unit transmitter only when data needs to be transmitted between Remote Units.  Ideally suited to remote sites where power consumption is an issue, the stand-by power consumption in idle mode is typically 8W. 

Key features: 

  • M-PoD automatically turns on the transmitter, rapidly keying it up from idle mode in typically 80 ms 
  • Specifically designed for Network Digital Links (NDL), the M-PoD supports cascaded links 
  • Ensures the transmitter will stay active for a programmable time period 
  • The M-PoD confirms all data has been processed before automatically deactivating the transmitter. 
  • Low power options for links that have to run continuously on shorter paths reducing the power consumption to as low as 40W @ + 23 dBm power output 

 


M-CAM – Adaptive Modulation 

Key use: Maintaining links in adverse RF conditions

 

Designed for Network Digital Linking, MiMOMax’s proprietary smart Adaptive Modulation scheme, M-CAM, optimizes data throughput and simultaneously maintains the radio link in adverse conditions. Scanning the RF channel conditions, the M-CAM enables the radio unit to transverse between QPSK and the maximum modulation available. 

Key features: 

  • Measures quality of received signal to select appropriate modulation scheme 
  • In circumstances where fixed latency is required (i.e. for synchronous data), the M-CAM can be disabled to ensure unit’s modulation logic remains fixed to a set modulation scheme 

 


M-RAP – Route Adaptation 

Key use: Redundant communications

 

Providing dynamic routing, MiMOMax’s M-RAP is an optional suite of protocols that provides a set of standard routing, tunnelling and redundancy protocols. M-RAP allows communications to continue in the event of a failure if alternative communication links exist. 

The suite enables: 

  • OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) – operates within a routed multipoint (but also a point-to-point) network allowing the radio to automatically form adjacencies and populate radio routing tables. When enabled on the WAN, OSPF allows for aggregation and sharing of routes from the multipoint area to further network segments. 
  • VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol) – is a fundamental brick for router failover. Enables seamless hand-over to a redundant path in case of main path failure. Works for a scenario of a redundant base station or more than one remote that connects an RTU to LAN/WAN. 
  • GRE (Generic Route Encapsulation) is used for network segregation and to transfer OSPF information to a central monitoring server. 
  • PIM (Protocol Independent Multicast) – robust and handy sparse multicast protocol PIM-SM, allowing to run VoIP across small or large networks composed of point-to-point links, integrating with standard routing and switching equipment, e.g. CiSCO. 

 


M-DAP – Data Acceleration Protocol 

Key use: Boosting data capacity & quality

 

MiMOMax Data Acceleration Protocol (M-DAP) is designed to enhance real-time applications such a VoIP via significant increases in capacity and quality. 

Key features: 

  • Compression of headers and payload to achieve better capacity over the air. Supports compression of IP, UDP, TCP, ESP, RTP and UDP-lite by RoHCv2 standard. MiMOMax Wireless adds value by compressing out the Ethernet header and VLAN tags completely per session. The payload is compressed using ZLIB and Lempel-Ziv-Welch algorithm with selectable compression strategy and level. 
  • Quality of Service – assigning priority to data packets via software configurable rules to ensure critical information is expedited. Supports disciplines such as Diffserv, IP Precedence and mixed systems from both.  Additionally, Diffserv classes can be mapped to IP precedence classes and vice versa. 
  • Integrated traffic classifier, DCSP/TOS, to mark (or re-mark the already marked) packets on the radio. 

 


M-SEC – Network & Firewall Security 

Key use: Network security

 

A stateful firewall, MiMOMax’s M-SEC enhances the security of critical communications networks by distinguishing the legitimacy of data packets and their match with a known active connection. 

Key features: 

  • Unlike stateless firewalls which retain no memory of previous packets, stateful firewalls hold signification attributes of each connection making it highly secure against “spoofing” attacks. 
  • Offers a more granular approach to controlling network traffic. 
  • Anti-lockout feature to prevent administrator from inadvertently configuring firewalls locking the web interface. 
  • Offers predetermined set of rules to allow the network user to securely manage web-administered devices. 
  • Offers protection against specific attacks (e.g. smurfs) 

 


OTAP – Over-The-Air Programming  

Key use: Remote configuration and upgrades

 

With this feature enabled, the user can perform complete software and database updates or upgrades remotely via the radio link.  In the absence of this feature, the software and database on the radio can only be updated or upgraded locally via the wired Ethernet port. 

Key features: 

  • The operating and application software can all be upgraded over-the-air
  • If an error occurs during the re-programming process, the radios will revert to the last known working version of the software and reestablish the link.
  • OTAP includes Over the Air Configuration (OTAC) plus local CCMS. 

 


Nitro Boost 

Key use: Boosting data throughput

 

Allowing the radio unit modulation to adapt up to the full 256QAM, Nitro Boost raises the data throughput of a MiMOMax Wireless radio to reach a user data rate of up to 256kbps in 25kHz (raw data rate of 320kbps) and 512kbps in 50kHz (raw data rate of 640kbps). 

  • For Multipoint Digital Links (MDL), Nitro Boost is available as Nitro Boost 16 (16QAM), Nitro Boost 64 (64QAM) and Nitro Boost 256 (256QAM). 

 


Remote CCMS (OTAC) 

The Remote CCMS enables access to the CCMS of a remote unit through both the local Ethernet port and an over-the-air link (WAN).  

Key features: 

  • Allows Over-The-Air-Configuration (OTAC) of the remote radio link; 
  • Save costs related to travelling to both radio sites.  
  • Remote CCMS includes local CCMS.  

 


Remote data logging 

This feature allows the user the ability to download logs and databases from remote radios, using the CLI or CCMS.
